Axel Dörner (DE)

Axel Dörner (b. 1964, Cologne) is a pioneering trumpeter and composer known for redefining the trumpet’s role in free improvisation. Based in Berlin since 1994, he has worked with key figures such as Alexander von Schlippenbach, Sven-Åke Johansson, Ken Vandermark, Otomo Yoshihide, and Phil Minton, and is a founding member of groups like Die Enttäuschung, Monks Casino, and Contest of Pleasures. His innovative extended techniques and electronic trumpet work have earned him international recognition, including the SWR Jazz Prize (2006) and Berlin Jazz Prize (2019). Dörner has appeared with major ensembles such as the Globe Unity Orchestra and SWR Symphony Orchestra, and has performed worldwide across genres and disciplines.
