Culture in Times of Sharing and Division #2: Visual Arts Scene in Berlin and Wroclaw
Culture in Times of Sharing and Division – networking session
Recognizing the inherent ambiguity of the Polish word "współdzielenie," in which "sharing" and "dividing" stem from the same root, the Polish Institute in Berlin and Avant Art invites professionals from the dance and performance scene in Berlin and Warsaw and from the visual arts scene in Berlin and Wroclaw, representing various organizations, institutions, and festivals, to a social and professional networking event.
Joanna Warsza (Stadtkuratorin Hamburg) will moderate the visual arts scene session. The main partner of Networking Session No. 2, “The Visual Arts Scenes in Berlin and Wrocław,” is the Wrocław Museum of Contemporary Art and Wrocław Municipality.
This event is closed to the public.
The conversations will seek to address, among others, the following questions:
What are the strategies of institutions in Poland and Germany within the context of economic cuts and shifting public priorities? Do we need new cross-border alliances? If so, what kind of cooperation between Warsaw/Wroclaw and Berlin is needed right now – and what has changed? How do institutions and organizations recognize and respond to the needs of their local communities? What do the divergences and similarities in the experiences, discourses, and local contexts of German and Polish institutions tell us?
How do we work honestly within the political and social dimensions in polarized societies? And how do we build long-term structures where power shifts regularly, and cultural policy shifts with it?
These are a few of the urgent questions we pose. We anticipate that this gathering will yield rich discourse and meaningful exchange.
