The project by Drew McDowall and Pedro Maia is an immersive audiovisual performance combining McDowall’s hypnotic electroacoustic music with Maia’s experimental analog visuals, creating a hallucinatory and astral experience at the intersection of sound and cinema.
Live AV show in collaboration with the Scottish composer and musician Drew McDowall based on Drew’s fifth and latest studio album A Thread, Silvered and Trembling (2024 Dais Records). Drew McDowall has been a pioneering mainstay of experimental music for decades. A former member of two truly legendary groups – Psychic TV in the 1980s and Coil from the 1990s onwards – he began releasing solo records with Dais Records just over a decade ago. As a solo musician, he delves into the hallucinatory, hypnagogic spaces between intimate reality and the celestially infinite. He melds intricate modular soundscapes with cut-up samples while deconstructing electro-acoustic sounds into a tapestry of whirring, shuddering elegance. An opus of tumultuous timbres falling in and out of harmony and dissonance, angelic yet devilish, soothing yet confronting.
McDowall presents the music of this album as a special live A/V show in collaboration with the filmmaker Pedro Maia – whose cross-disciplinary and multi-format work weaves classical techniques with contemporary innovations to envision unfathomable spectacles fit for McDowall’s sublime, astral music.
